Customer says item delivered to wrong address – possible scam?

Buyer claims their package was delivered to the wrong address and can’t be retrieved. Tracking shows it was delivered to the address they had provided so I’m assuming they either moved or directed the package to an address they had previously sent something to. They canceled the return request but now want a refund without returning the item. I get that mistakes happen but the tone of their message just feels…”off”.

I told them to file an A-to-Z claim. Has anyone seen this before? Will A-to-Z cover it if tracking shows delivery but buyer says it’s to the wrong address?

Did you buy your shipping on Amazon and did you get a carrier pickup scan on or before Amazon's ship-by date?

Who is the carrier? USPS?

It is a scam technique. They have it sent to a friend's address then claim you sent to the wrong address. Of course Amazon is going to refund them on your dime even if you used Amazon shipping and did everything according to policy. Scammers are an Amazon protected class and Amazon will not lose a penny to it.

A fellow seller offered this as a reply. Funny thing... no one has filed a claim. Once they have to do work and realize you're not just giving a refund. They seem to go away. It might be worth trying. Just adapt as needed for the situation.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Tracking indicates that the package was delivered at the provided address at <date & time>; of course we cannot independently verify that, relying on the <carrier> reporting of the event. We ship all orders to the shipping address provided in the order.

Since this order was shipped using Amazon's own shipping service, however, you may be eligible to file an A-to-Z claim using the following steps:

How to Request an A-to-z Guarantee Claim:

1. To request a refund on an eligible order using a LAPTOP or DESKTOP device go to Your Orders

2. Locate your order in the list and click Problem with order.

3. Select “Package didn’t arrive” from the list.

4. Select Request refund.

5. Enter your comments in the text box.

6. Select Submit.

To request an A-Z Claim on an eligible order using a MOBILE device or CELL PHONE:

1. Amazon’s mobile app to connect to Customer Support.

2. Report that you “did not receive” your order.

3. Request a refund.

NOTE: Refund requests can take up to one week to investigate. Amazon will notify you of their decision via the email address associated with your account.

Hi, thanks for reaching out!

[SHIPPING_CARRIER] tracking ([SHIPPING_TRACKING_NUMBER]) indicates that the package is marked as [SHIPMENT_STATUS] at the provided address ; of course we cannot independently verify that, relying on [SHIPPING_CARRIER] reporting of the event. We ship all orders to the shipping address provided in the order.

should be on customer if they use incorrect address but it is not. If you want FREE sheet Amazon is the place to shop and everyone knows this and nothing will ever be done as Amazon would loose 50% of their customers if they stop all the fraud and abuse and do not believe any of the higher ups want to downsize their yachts.
