Return Label Charge for Item Ordered by Mistake

Why am I being charged for return labels for items ordered by a customer "by mistake"? I can not find a way to charge the customer for return shipping. Am I missing something, or is this a new policy --- the seller pays for the label no matter the reason. Any help appreciated.

Their policy seems totally chaotic now. Sometimes I get charged for buyer-faulted returns, sometimes not. Sometimes seller-faulted are refunded at 1st scan, sometimes not. My advice is just go with the flow.

do a safe T claim for it , but make sure amazon has already refunded for the return

For a buyer faulted return, the return label cost should be deducted from the refund issued to the buyer. If it was done through RFS, then it should be automatically deducted from their refund. If you are doing the refund, there should be a checkbox as to if you wish to charge the buyer for the return shipping or not. (The checkbox for return shipping is not there if the buyer chooses a seller faulted return reason even though it is usually a buyer lie when that happens.)

The funny ones are when they charge both the customer AND the seller. $$$$$.

Let me make a confession and an educated guess. It is better for this buyer to get return label prepaid by us than for them to lie about the purpose of the return. If you pay for all return shipping, you will observe that lies about the purpose of return will go down. It is the cost of doing business on Amazon.

I am very open to contrary opinion because i want to learn everyday

Hello! @Seller_43s6WYjvFWPR4

Thank you for bringing this matter into our attention. I have seen similar issues in the past, and this may be related to your return settings, if you have Free returns for all of your items, this means you will be charged for the return shipping cost regardless of the return reason.

Please follow the steps below to confirm your current settings and adjust accordingly:

  • Go to Returns settings.
  • Click the Return Program Settings tab.
  • Go to the Free Return Program tab and go to the USA store.
  • You will have the following Free Returns program options:
  1. I want to offer Free Returns for all items (if you have this option selected, all returns cost will be passed on to you)
  2. I want to offer Free Returns for some items
  3. I want to offer Free Returns to none of my items

You can find more information here: Free returns for seller-fulfilled orders. If you are using another option, I'd like to further diagnose this, feel free to share a couple of Order IDs where the return reason is buyer faulted, but you were held responsible for the return costs.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

SAFE-T has been since 9/1/2024 Charging all shipping no matter what the return we have multiple denied claims on this issue seems Amazon has once again change policy without informing sellers! With order Did Not Approve is customer claiming fraud should be covered and it is not and Mistake is customer is responsible for all Shipping TO & FROM especially when you do not offer FREE shipping and those are denied also! We are shifting as many items possible to other makers this has become scam sheetp hole of a platform.

.

Our guess is that sales are down on entire platform and Amazon is doing what they can to bring up their revenue total even if the F Over sellers.

.

We even have AtoZ where it was on order where customer 100% swapped item and we got 75% back from Safe-T then after 30 days we see AtoZ for a total of 2x the original order total given to customer with an ODR ding against us total horseshoe we have to waste time dealing with this nonsense!

I don't have opinions on the matter - I do however offer facts:

A seller should not be responsible to pay for Amazons customer to return an item. That should be Amazons responsibility, as it's THEIR customer. If it was a sellers customer they could communicate openly and freely, market to them, etc - which are all prohibited actions.

Also, to assume that a consumer without the insights a seller has is going to automatically lie less is flawed. As is the idea that a seller will presumably know more about the returns when they eat a consumers mistake.
