Amazon Wrongfully Flagged Our Product – Skin Lightening Compliance Issue

Hey fellow sellers,

We’re dealing with a completely unfair compliance issue, and I wanted to share our experience to see if anyone else has faced the same problem.

Amazon recently flagged one of our natural skincare products under the Skin Lightening category and made the listing inactive. The issue? Our product does NOT claim to lighten skin anywhere in the title, description, or marketing. The only reference is to a natural ingredient (turmeric), which is widely known for its antioxidant and soothing properties—but that’s NOT the same as skin lightening.

Why This is Completely Wrong:

✅ We never claim to lighten or alter skin tone.

✅ Turmeric is not a skin lightening agent—just a natural ingredient that supports healthy skin.

✅ There are multiple active ASINs using the word “brightening” in their titles, yet our listing was taken down without cause.

What We Did:

Submitted an appeal highlighting that our product is misclassified.

Provided examples of active listings that make far stronger claims than ours but remain untouched.

Explained how this unjust enforcement is directly hurting our business.

Amazon Needs to Do Better

This type of inconsistent and unfair enforcement is damaging to small businesses trying to operate within the rules. If Amazon wants to regulate skin lightening claims, they should apply their policies fairly across all listings—not target compliant sellers while allowing others to stay up.

Has anyone else dealt with a similar issue? How did you resolve it? Would love any insights on how to push Amazon to correct this faster.

Let’s get this fixed—this kind of enforcement shouldn’t be acceptable.

well, if we ignore the fact that that same soap bar is available at Walmart for $0.99 - $3 and you want much, much more...

the description states:

Brightens: Turmeric & Vitamin C are renowned for its skin-brightening properties, making your complexion glow.

YOU should have made better. Now it's too late. Create a removal order, create a new listing with a new UPC from GS1 of course without that claim, upon receiving your units put the new FNSKU on them and send in again.

No, there is no other smart work around.

Hi there @Seller_ZKYBXFIl56oHD,

I'm sorry you have had issues with your product being classified in this way. In general I can see what options exist to appeal this further, however in many cases it may not be possible to overturn this decision. If you provide your most recent Case on this issue I will investigate further. Please note I can't prevent required removals so you may want to ensure that your inventory isn't disposed but updating your settings. Thank you for your understanding.
