How can we have a reference price?
I can't find the answer I'm looking for in the help pages, and in Amazon cases, they often just direct us to links without providing a clear explanation. Here are the questions I want to ask:
- What exactly is a reference price?
- In some places, it's referred to as a list price, while in others it’s said to be something such as a list price. I’ve also seen "was price" being mentioned as a type of reference price. Which is correct? Is the list price always the reference price, or does the reference price change based on the situation?
- How can I tell if I have a reference price?
- Let’s say I have a "your price" and a "list price," and I also have a reference price. However, whenever I add a sale price, the reference price disappears because the "featured offer" and "lowest price" no longer match before the discount is applied. What causes this? Why does the reference price disappear when a discount is added, and how can I prevent it?

According to the Amazon Policy on Reference Prices page, a type of reference price is the List Price (for example, a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price or MSRP). The "Was Price" is also a type of Reference price. Reference prices are displayed in several places, including on product detail pages and in search results.
You can tell if you have a reference price if it shows a "List Price" or "Was Price".
Regarding your last question, I would need a clarification of this. Generally, if you do not have a ready-to-provide List Price, a possible value could be the first price at which you offered or will offer the product.
I would recommend reviewing the slideshow training within Show a reference price on your products by providing a List Price page which goes over the details of the type of Reference prices, the "List Price" and the "Was Price".
