How to Close Your Global Selling Accounts
After discovering a list of 10 Unhealthy Global Marketplaces listed in our seller health tab a couple of weeks ago, we spent a great deal of time verifying and making each market active by appealing the deactivations market-by-market.
We started in the UK – European Market. UK “unlocks” all the markets in Europe. Australia and Japan had to be done independently.
For reference, this is our first request into the forums regarding that issue:
Now that we have made everything active and in good standing the question is "do we close the accounts or try to keep them open and inactive". Our first thought was to close everything until we read the directions for closing the global accounts (below).
Our major concern is the last bullet point on the list:
- Be sure to consider all implications before closing your selling accounts globally. This will end your selling privileges on Amazon in that region.
Is “This will end your selling privileges on Amazon in that region” permanently? We don’t have any near-term plans – the next 2 to 3 years - to enter more markets, but this could change.
Any clarification would be appreciated or experience in closing global marketplaces.

Here are the key steps to close your global selling accounts on Amazon:
- Go to Seller Central and select Settings. Under Account Info, choose Close Account.
- On the Close Account page, select the reason for closing the account.
- Check the box to confirm that you want to close the account.
- Click Close Account.
- Once you close your account, you won't be able to sell in that marketplace.
- To close additional accounts, you'll need to switch to each marketplace and repeat the account closure process.

- If you change your mind, you can reopen a closed account within 90 days by contacting Seller Support.

Closing a certain region will end your store in that marketplace, permanently for that specific business. To avoid possibly issues with further Code of Conduct and Multiple Account policyviolations, I can certainly understand the contemplation of closing out that region.
However, you also have options to avoid active sales in those marketplaces. There are specific account settings you can utilize to not receive orders in those stores, such as vacation mode. On the other hand, vacation mode will not prevent any listings on those marketplaces from being subject to policy compliance.
You will want to check for any connections established in your build international listings tool under global selling. If there is a connection to any of the UK marketplaces, I suggest disabling the connection. This stops the automatic listing upload process for all marketplaces from the main marketplace you utilize.
If there are any listings on those other region marketplaces, I also advise going through and removing all listings to avoid possible policy violations, as a listing being out of stock does not exempt it from policy compliance.
I also suggest checking your accounts for remote fulfillment being enabled as well, just to cover all of your bases.
If you decide to go this route, I also suggest proactively checking the other marketplaces and regions frequently for any communication or requests for any type of compliance to avoid deactivation of those accounts.
All in all, it would still be possible to open another EU marketplace account, however, it would still be subject to the polices I referenced earlier. At the end of the day, I hope you can utilize this information to leverage the options you have for your business on Amazon.
As always, if you need anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out and continue utilizing the seller forums. We are here to support you.
All the best,
Stevie
