Do not ship through UPS Amazon buy shipping

We’re not alone in dealing with this, but we’ve also been hit with unfair UPS adjustment charges. In 2024, we shipped 1,082 of these items, and suddenly, we’re facing outrageous extra charges. The problem? The dimensions and weights match exactly what UPS reported them to be.

32oz is 2 pounds!!!!!! We only bought the labels for these items from Amazon because they were a few dollars cheaper than from our UPS shipping account. We use that to ship heavier items at a bigger discount and the tradeoff was we wouldn't get that great of a deal on lighter items.

So again, why are we being charged more? According to Amazon, it’s a UPS issue. According to UPS, they can’t provide an explanation. As a small business, every dollar counts, and this is beyond unfair.

Here are some examples to illustrate the issue. How can these charges be justified when the dimensions and weights UPS reported are exactly the same as what we made the label for? Yet, neither UPS nor Amazon seems to care.

You should be entering weights in whole pounds and not ounces for UPS shipments. 1 oz package is 1 pound entered by the seller. 1 pound 3 ounce package should be entered as 2 pounds by the seller etc. UPS has always rounded weights on packages up to the next pound. If you use ounces UPS will hit you with adjustments on everyone that's not rounded to a whole pound weight. I've been shipping UPS for 30 years and it's always been whole pounds.

Hello @Seller_e8JRZLGykah3l While differences between customer-entered and carrier-audited weights and dimensions are the most common reason for adjustments, they are not the only one.

Carrier shipping correction charges

The shipping adjustments detailed in your screenshot are for "additional handling" surcharges. I included the link to the UPS 2025 Daily Rate and Service Guide; "Other Charges" are detailed on Page 179.

Out of curiosity, you ship in 100% normal sized cardboard boxes right? I'm guessing yes, but if not we know why the overcharges.

Were these compounded from the whole year or just recent shipments?

Its a well known issue. But you are right.

Amazon and UPS bounce you and I back and forth between them. Overall, we are mostly helpless.

No doubt Amazon and UPS split their ill gotten gains.

What in the world does "Unknown Charge Reason" mean? How is that legal?
