UPS Penalty For Oversized Shipments That Are Amazon's Fault!
I purchased 100 shipping boxes from Amazon that were described as being 48"x6"x6" in size. I have used the same size box for years with no issues until last month. I kept getting penalty charges from UPS for my shipments being overweight/oversized. Well, I know they weren't overweight and the boxes were clearly labeled (on each box) as being 48"x6"x6". I disputed the charges with UPS to no avail.
Yesterday I measured the boxes and they are, in fact, 49" in length, NOT 48", which resulted in the penalties. To me, what's the big deal? To UPS it means almost 75% more for shipping if the shipment exceeds 48", therefore I was nailed for a couple hundred dollars in penalties when this was totally Amazon's fault for selling a product that was totally mis-labeled! I bought my shipping through Amazon shipping and the penalties didn't come into play until I started using their boxes!
I called Amazon buyer no-service and was told to contact Amazon seller no-service, which I did. They gave me the runaround and tried to send me back to buyer no-service but I didn't let up. They asked for the order number of the box purchase which I supplied. Then, after being on hold for 10 minutes she comes back and says she has no access to that order number so I'll have to call buy no-service.... WHAT??
I frustrated as hell.... any ideas?

Boxes are measured by the ID (Inside Diameter), not the OD. Most boxes have cardboard that is 1/8" think, so when you fold the flaps on the ends, that is 4 layers of 1/8" thick cardboard which comes out to 1/2". UPS measures to the nearest inch, so if you are right at or over 48.5", it will get billed at 49" which is quite a bit more expensive due to the length surcharge from UPS. You need to always make sure of what the outside diameter of a box is, never just go by what is printed on it. You stated that the box size is 48"x6"x6", are you sure the box isn't 6"x6"x48"? (A 48"x6"x6" box has 48 inch long flaps, the 6"x6"x48" boxes have the 6 inch long flaps.) Typically if you use the 48"x6"x6" boxes you don't go over 48.5" and thus don't get billed the length surcharge. (Unless you are using a double or triple walled box.) This is why I use the 48"x6"x6" boxes instead of 6"x6"x48".

Hi @media
Dominic from Amazon here, understand the frustration here. Can you provide me with the Seller Support case ID? I don't know if there is anything we can do but I can review.
Best,
Dominic

why are you using 48 in boxes in the first place. Unless you are shipping just one item in that box, the max dimension on any side is supposed to be 25 inches.

Have never been able to correct these types of things, UPS simply says it is an Amazon account so I have no control or authority to object to errors or file claims and Amazon will simply tell you to contact UPS. Seems like an illegal scam from my point of view. UPS rips off sellers and Amazon stands by and blames UPS. Endless loop of avoiding responsibility. Have fun wasting your time is this forum, they offer next to no assistance these types of issues. We have lost thousands of dollars from unpaid UPS claims and bogus "corrections" absolutely no place to turn.
