What she should have done before ...

Add a backup verification method

Choose a backup or alternate method to receive authentication codes. This method will be used if you are unable to receive your authentication code through your primary device.

1. Select a backup method that is different from your primary method.

2. If you choose Text message (SMS) or Voice delivery (you will receive a phone call), enter the phone number.

3. Click Send code. You must add a backup device to complete the Two-Step Verification process. If you aren't near your backup device, select the Skip verification check box, and then click Save backup number. Amazon will not initiate a verification of that number.

SINCE SHE DIDN'T ...

If you are unable to receive an authentication code through either your primary or backup device, you might need to go through the Account Recovery process to regain access to your account. This can take up to 48 hours.

Now ... Amazon gives NO METHOD or link for that process.

I suspect opening a case is out of the question here, so I'll go with trying this in 1 of 2 methods.

1. Welcome to the Seller Central Technical Support Page!

2. Coming at it from the Buyer Side of things - Recover Your Account after Two-Step Verification Fails

To regain access to your account, you'll need to verify your identity by providing a scan or photo of a government-issued identity document. To protect your account, we won't be able to make changes to your Two-Step Verification settings until your identity is successfully verified. If you are able to sign in to your account, you'll have access to make changes to your account.

Before you begin account recovery, try to sign in with a registered backup method or from a trusted device.

If you still can't sign in, to recover your account:

1. Go to Two-Step Verification Account Recovery.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to upload your identity document.

  • Make sure that your name and address, and the issuing authority (for example, state or country) are visible.
  • Cover, conceal, or remove sensitive information such as account numbers or identification numbers.
