FBA vs. advertising

For about 3 months now, I have tried to launch a new product on Amazon through self-fulfilled only. I figured I'd spend some money on Amazon advertising to make up for the lost revenue not using FBA (because as you know, FBA inventory sells faster for some *cough* reason).

0 sales for this item.

I recently sent 14 in to FBA and I sold 2 in 2 days.

I feel like advertising is a waste of money for self-fulfilled inventory after this experiment...Do I have that right?

In my experience, not at all.

Its true. FBA is the main driver behind volume sales. Without ads, its unsustainable.

Its a common question and its hard to trust my opinion. I suggest you try another experiment and stop ads. You will find that the sales velocity is extremely low. See if you are comfortable with this velocity.
