shipping commission

Did you know that Amazon charges a shipping commission even when you ship a product. For example, I sold an item and the Amazon commission was $3.61 - Referral fee of $1.05, Closing fee of $1.80, and a shipping commission of $.76. Keep in mind that I listed the item several years ago, so my shipping was $3.99. My actual shipping was $4.92. I checked my other transactions and they are charging shipping fees on all of my sales. Does this seem fair?

Amazon has always taken a cut out of the shipping -- even before media sellers were allowed to set their own rate. Initially they called it something else. Then they moved that fee to the item.

But the percent take out of shipping was instituted many years ago. It was to combat sellers who offered low priced (usually books) with a high shipping charge to avoid paying much in fees.

Fair has NOTHING to do with it. Amazon owns the site and Amazon makes the rules.

AND, @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6bl types faster than I do!!

WAY back a lot of sellers would charge .01 for the items but $19.99 (or whatever) for shipping because Amazon and other sites were only collecting their fees on the products.

Amazon can be pretty dumb about a lot of things but they are NOT stupid enough to not realize that they were losing money -- lots and lots of money!

They fixed the leak and filled their bank account.
