Why are used cosmetics being refunded outside of return window?

We deal with cosmetics which are directly applied to the skin and/or lips. Regularly, people will purchase 1 of each of our available concealer shades which are plastic wrapped and safety sealed and try each one and then return any unwanted ones. Return reasons range from "no longer needed" , "item defective", "bought by mistake", etc. We have even had items returned after the 30 day return period and the consumer gets their money back. How can we stop the loss? We are not a makeup counter here for people to test our products at our expense of loss of goods as well as shipping back and forth. Has anyone found a way to stop this blatant disregard for honest sellers vs dishonest consumers?

Sorry, but Amazon encourages this type of purchasing behavior. You either need to build it into your cost structure, have better product detail pages, or sell on other venues.

But yes, I'll agree...quite annoying.

While a seller cannot create a non-return policy, if you feel that you meet the criteria to not accept a return, you can file a reimbursement (SAFE-T) claim. Additionally, in some circumstances, you can charge a restocking fee when a buyer returns an item. These circumstances include when an item is returned outside of Amazon's return policy or in used, damaged, or materially different condition.
