package is being returned damaged by carrier?

UPS label purchased using buy shipping, it's being returned to us as damaged per tracking. Customer is requesting a refund( right fully so)

How to handle this? Do we put in a claim with the carrier or should they open an A-z claim? I suspect Amazon won't even cover cover the claim because tracking says returning to sender(damaged).

Hello @Seller_TD8kClMwLYBMd

Thank you for posting your inquiry to the Forums.

I came across your thread and wanted to provide some insight. If the return was damaged in transit by the carrier, you can open a claim directly with the carrier. Please feel free to review this help page which details optional coverage for loss or damage. It includes a section for UPS which has the phone number to call and the information to provide to the carrier as the label was purchased via buy shipping.

Regards,
