Does "Legal Business Name" require LLC?

When setting up the Amazon Seller's account, if I do not have an LLC, do I HAVE to use my personal name as the "Legal Business Name" or can I just make up a business name to match the theme of my products?

I'm going to assume by "make up a business name" you mean by legally registering a business name to trade under. Yes, any LEGAL business name is fine, whether it be a business name with its own FEIN number or your name with your SS#. I HIGHLY suggest you register an LLC. Also, bear in mind that you need to provide utility bills to Amazon with matching legal name...

No, you don't have to have an LLC. I am a "Sole Proprietor" so on my legal forms it's Meggan Novotny DBA Meggan's Warehouse.

People in the forums throw around LLC too much but you should register with your state/county with a license. That will register your business name, whatever you decide to use.

No. The legal business name is the name on your State's Retail Business License. It can be a simply Sole Proprietor.

That will depend on the state you live in. Look at your local secretary of state website for the state you live in. Each business type will have different requirements. Each type has its own benefits and down sides. Read about it or talk to an attorney before making a final decision. Take your time and do it right to save a lot of time in the long run.
