Can anyone translate and summarize today's 'product attributes' email into plain English for all of us!?! I only sell books, and this makes no logical sense to me. Thanks bunches!

Hello,

Starting June 17, 2024, the requirements to create listings will change for all Media products in Amazon’s worldwide stores. Affected product types and attributes are available in this spreadsheet.

These updates will decrease listing errors that are caused when attributes are required but may not be marked as required when you list a product. The updates are also designed to help customers make more informed purchase decisions.

Note: Your existing listings won't be affected.

These changes will apply when you create a new listing. When you edit an existing listing, you may be asked to provide additional information to meet the new requirements. You can continue to update your prices and inventory levels by using Manage Inventory or price and quantity templates.

The following changes will gradually roll out to sellers using Media product types between June 17 and July 31, 2024:

Add Products: The "Add Products" page on Media product types will include updated requirements when you create or edit listings. Note: If you see a required attribute that isn’t relevant for your product, alert us by hovering over the "?" symbol next to the attribute and selecting the Irrelevant attribute option. We’ll use this feedback to determine if the attribute should be made optional or removed.

Add Products via Upload: All sellers who use "Add Products via Upload" on Media product types can choose to upgrade to new listing templates with updated attribute requirements. When you select a product category for your listing, you’ll see a banner with a link to download the new template. However, we will continue to accept listing submissions using templates with the previous requirements. To download the previous template, click the toggle button on the top right of the banner. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice on the Add Products via Upload page before the updated template becomes the default option.

For more information, go to Updated attributes within the Add Products and Add Products via Upload.

Not an official translation, but it seems if you download the spread sheet it is a list of the things that are required on a listing for each product type that were not previously a "required" attribute.

It is quite clear that no reasonable or knowledgable person is deciding these requirements because this is the list for what I mainly sell in, Prints and Posters:

  • Product Type
  • Bullet Point
  • Model Number
  • Product Description
  • Country of Origin
  • Part Number
  • Color
  • Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • Brand Name
  • Number of Items

Some of this I get. Number of items, Product description, Bullet points. All good things to have on a listing for a poster.

Model number? Part number? Dangerous Goods regulation?

Maybe some poster makers out there have model and part numbers. I dunno, my posters don't. Also I don't think any of my posters, prints or even postcards fall into any sort of "dangerous" category.

Oh well, I guess instead of working on sales, marketing or advertising I'm off to research the dangerous regulation for printed paper. . . . .

I, too, would like further information, as I downloaded the spreadsheet, but I keep getting a message that my MacBook cannot translate the file. I sell used books and don't know if they are included in this issue.

Mine had already been changed to this for a couple of months. It's really stupid when they're asking us to supply product height, width, length for CD's as well as the packaging. Then they expect us to just "hover over" the question marks by all their new added requirements, which are pretty much all irrelevant, to tell them that they're irrelevant??? There's about 20 different ones, but Amazon wants us to spend all this time checking each one off so they can review and determine if it should be removed. Does Amazon not know how to do anything themselves, anymore, or is this just some fun sport to them, making things tougher, more complicated for their sellers? It's ridiculous to think they are paying people who work for them to come up with this stuff. Then have us do all the work and make barely anything. What's becoming irrelevant is Amazon as a fair marketplace.
